I wasn’t looking

I wasn’t looking.
I promise.
I was at the bachelor party
Before the wedding
At a bar I’d never been to.
I was sober,
Just in case.
You walked by me twice
And I noticed you
Both times.
On the third pass,
You bumped me
And apologized.
I said it was OK
And asked you name.
Celia, you said.
I bought you a drink
And invited you to take the stool
Next to me.
We talked, almost shouted
To be heard above the music.
You were in town for a bachelorette party
And we laughed at the coincidence.
I left to buy the groom a shot
And you waited.
We walked outside together
To clear our heads and cool off.
There was a breeze
And it ruffled your dark hair.
I reached over to clear a strand
From your face.
You leaned forward and smiled.
I smiled back
And searched for something to say.
You asked where I was from
And smiled when I told you.
We lived mere miles apart
And wanted to meet again.
You gave me your number
And I gave you mine.
We stood there
Close to each other
Feeling something
Worth pursuing.
Inevitably we were called away.
Me, by my party
You, by yours.
I wasn’t looking.
I promise.
But I found you.
