Shallow
My image of you is changing
as the years slip by.
I’m shallow I guess.
I still think of you as beautiful
but I don’t think blonde
or brunette
or red headed.
Those distinctions
have lost meaning.
You’re no longer tall
or short
or skinny
or curvy.
And you’re not blue eyed
or brown
or green
or fair skinned
or dark
or tanned.
And you don’t necessarily
wear dresses
or jeans
or skirts.
I’m not so granular
in my appreciation
of women
now.
No,
you’re beautiful because
you read,
you listen to music,
you enjoy movies
and you like art,
visit galleries
and museums.
You hold friends close
and family closer.
You love what you do
and are good at it.
You have strong opinions
and enjoy discussing them.
You have a passion
and volunteer
to make this world
a better place.
Maybe
I’m not so shallow
after all.
