In a park
You stood in a park
In a dream last night.
You were happily lost,
Gazing into the refection pond.
You stood by the pool
And the sun,
Reflected off the water,
Danced across your face.
You bent and reached down
To run your hand across the surface
Of the pond.
You played in the water for moments
Before rising and wiping the moisture
Across your jeans
You turned and walked to the nearest bench
And sat in the sun
Close to the pond.
I watched from afar
As you clasped your hands
And said a short prayer.
You stretched and settled your arms
On the top of the bench,
Bearing your weight,
And looked out toward the water.
I came forward
From your left
And sat on the bench
Beside you.
You pulled your arms back
And apologized for
Taking up space.
I smiled and thanked you
For sharing your bench.
You turned your gaze
Back to the water
And forgot about me.
