I’ve always been a romantic
And part of romance
Is being alone
And dreaming.
It is so easy to dream of love
And be in love with the thought
Of being in love.
It is so much harder
For the romantic
To feel love and reach out,
Vulnerable,
And hopeful,
And not expect rejection.
So many women
say that they want romance
Without understanding
The cost.
Every rejection
Burns a hole
In the heart of a romantic.
They try a little less each time.
The cocky men,
The womanizers,
Try many more times
Than the romantics
And through sheer numbers alone,
They win the women.
But at the sacrifice
Of romance.
And when the women realize
they have accepted
Less than they dreamed of,
It’s too late.
