you just saved my life,
saved me from my inner strife.
and all you did was smile,

when i was feeling out of place.
i never thought something so simple
could spur such a change.
thirty minutes later,
i'm a lifetime away.
surrounded by friends

so unexpectedly.
this was at an AIGA event at Rudyard's back in 2001. i never saw the woman again, but her smile was the catalyst that led me to have a great time with people i mostly didn't know.
