When I was younger

When I was younger,
I was reckless.
I ran everywhere,
climbed higher,
and fell further
without ever getting hurt.
I didn’t worry as much,
and when I did
it was over pets
and comic books,
not relationships
and sanity.
Summer days were still
summer days,
but were never too hot
to go to the pool or the park.
I wore my bathing suit
everywhere.
When I was smaller,
I looked up to everyone.
Doing nothing for hours
was ok
and dreaming never felt
like wasting time.
I liked girls
but not as much
and didn’t think of them
as often.
Those I did know
Were mostly nice.
My best friend
was my grandfather
and old people were cool
because I didn’t drive
or live next to any
that didn’t like my music.
